‘Not a local exam’: Supreme Court dismisses plea to cancel NEET UG 2021

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking cancellation of NEET UG 2021 exam conducted on September 12 after NEET paper leak reports surfaced. NEET aspirants had also requested for conducting fresh NEET exams to ensure "fairness and justice".

The apex court said that it will not cancel the exam in which 7.5 lakh people have appeared. "This exam was conducted nationally and not locally," the top court said, according to Live Law.
“The bench criticized the petitioner for being 'adventurous' by filing the writ petition and warned that costs will be imposed.” the report said.
Petitioner is warned not to file such petitioners.

The bench initially proposed to dismiss the writ petition with Rs 5 lakhs costs, but later omitted the costs considering the counsel's request, the report added.

Advocate Ninad Dogra said that the CBI registered FIR and also reported that the papers were leaked on WhatsApp. A student got the answers while he was in the exam hall.

13 medical aspirants had filed a petition before the apex court seeking cancellation of NEET UG 2021 entrance examination held on September 12 over the paper leak reports and to conduct fresh exams.
The plea asked the NTA to submit an affidavit within a week as to why the exam should not be cancelled.
The Jaipur police arrested a candidate who appeared in NEET UG 2021 along with an invigilator for the alleged leak of NEET exam after the exam on September 12. Also, a day before the medical entrance examination, students flooded social media with hashtag #OperationNEET after rumours of NEET paper leak surfaced.
