NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court today observed orally that whatever it decides regarding the validity of the Rs 8 lakhs annual income criteria for the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) quota in the NEET-PG matter will apply to the NEET PG 2022-2023 admissions as well, the Live Law reported.

A bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant was hearing a petition filed by medical aspirants seeking clarity on the NEET PG 2022 information bulletin regarding the applicability of EWS criteria.
While the Supreme Court has settled the matter on the 27% OBC quota in NEET UG counselling 2021and NEET PG counselling 2021, it will continue to hear the case on the 10% EWS quota in the third week of March.
The petitioners also sought an extension of the deadline for edit option in the online NEET PG application forms with respect to the EWS norms.
Saying that the edit window cannot extend, Justice Chandrachud observed, "We have kept the matter in March for disposal. The process cannot stop."

The Supreme Court, on January 7, had paved the way for starting the stalled NEET-PG 2021 counselling process based on the existing 27% OBC and 10% EWS reservations in the All India Quota seats, saying there is an "urgent need" to begin the admission process.
