NEW DELHI : The district head or the civil surgeon of Surajpur district in Chattisgarh who had issued an order stopping all doctors from taking leave, including those who had registered to write the NEET PG 2021, has withdrawn the order. A fresh communication from the district administration on April 14 said MBBS doctors can appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test - Postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) scheduled to be held on April 14.

The Surajpur district’s original order dated April 13 said: “The medical officers who are serving the bond period or serving the probation period will not be given leave to appear in the examination [NEET PG 2021]. If after appearing in the examination they are selected for the PG program, they will not be relieved from their duties.” This was done to address the rising number of COVID cases in the states. Even Jharkhand has stopped all doctors from taking leave.

NEET PG 2021 postponed; New date to be decided later!

The outcry was immediate with doctors protesting online. The hugely competitive entrance exam for postgraduate courses in medicine is held just once in a year. The National Board of Examinations (NBE) had just released the NEET PG 2021 admit cards on April 13. Since it is conducted just once in a year, missing it would have meant delays in establishing careers.
