NEET PG 2024 Counselling: MCC schedule at mcc.nic.in soon; admission process

A fake NEET PG 2024 counselling schedule went viral on social media prompting candidates to joke about it. Several aspirants shared memes saying they have been pranked. MCC is yet to notify the NEET PG counselling 2024 schedule on its official website, mcc.nic.in

There is no limit on the number of attempts for NEET PG. Candidates can take the exam as many times as needed to secure admission to postgraduate medical programs like MD or MS.

The number of NEET PG seats has increased from 31,185 in 2014 to 70,645 currently. 

The NEET PG 2025 exam is expected to be held in June 2025. The exact NEET PG 2024 exam date is yet to be announced by the officials.

His social media post read, "As per discussions with MCC and Health Ministry officials, the NEET PG 2024 tentative counselling schedule is expected to be updated within the next 2-3 days. We urge all aspirants to stay tuned for further updates,” said Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National President of UDFA, via a social media post.

The National Board of Examinations (NBE), published the NEET PG 2024 merit list for 50% All India quota seats on September 5.

The NEET PG 2024 exam was conducted on August 11, and results were declared on August 23.

The NEET PG 2024 counselling process is set to allocate approximately 43,142 seats across India, including MD, MS, PG Diploma, and DNB CET seats. There are about 29,110 seats in government institutions and 20,259 seats in private institutions. 

The seat matrix will be released by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) and the Medical Council Committee (MCC), covering over 50% of All India Quota seats. The counselling will involve filling choices based on rank, preferences, and availability.

Various medical students' associations and groups of resident doctors have shared a tentative NEET PG 2024 counselling schedule on social media platforms. However, the official Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website still indicates that the "PG counselling schedule 2024 will be available soon," and there is no formal confirmation of dates as of now.

General and EWS category candidates need to achieve a minimum of 50th percentile in NEET PG to qualify for counselling, whereas SC, ST, and OBC category candidates must score at least 40th percentile to pass the exam.

Candidates from the general category are required to deposit Rs 1,000 for admission to All India Quota (AIQ) or Central Universities, while those belonging to SC and ST categories must pay Rs 500. For candidates seeking admission to deemed universities, the fee is Rs 5,000, regardless of their category.

The NEET PG exam is conducted to provide admission to postgraduate medical courses like MD, MS, and PG Diploma in India. It serves as a unified national entrance test, ensuring merit-based selection for All India Quota, state medical colleges, and central universities. The exam replaces multiple entrance tests, promoting a fair and standardized selection process for advanced medical education, as per National Medical Commission (NMC) and Ministry of Health guidelines.

NEET PG 2024 marking scheme:

• +4 marks for each correct answer.
• -1 mark for each incorrect answer.
• No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.

Candidates who have qualified for All India Quota seats on the basis of their rank in NEET PG conducted by NBE will be eligible for the Fifty percent (50%) AIQ seats of Central University.

NEET PG counselling typically takes place in four rounds: round 1, round 2, the mop-up round, and the stray vacancy round. Once the registration process is completed, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) releases the NEET PG seat allocation results. Afterward, candidates must report to their assigned colleges within the stipulated timeframe.

Around 2,28,540 candidates appeared for the NEET PG exam conducted in English for 3 hours and 30 minutes and consisted of 200 MCQs divided into three parts.

The All India 50% quota rank indicates a candidate's overall standing among all NEET-PG 2024 participants who are eligible for All India 50% quota counselling. This rank applies exclusively to MD/MS/PG Diploma courses for the 2024-25 admission session and is used to determine eligibility for counselling under this quota.

The Supreme Court will hear NEET PG 2024 plea on October 25. A group of students filed a plea in SC alleging discrepancies in NEET PG 2024 result and lack of transparency. Students challenged the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS') decision to not release the answer key, response sheet and question paper.
