Over 97.5% MBBS seats filled through NEET UG 2024-25; NMC asks students to verify admission status

Download EBookOver 97.5% of the MBBS seats in India have been filled for the academic year 2024-25, the National Medical Commission (NMC) said. The Under Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB) also requested the MBBS first year students to verify if their name is listed on the official website, nmc.org.in.
“Students who got admission in Graduate Level Medical Education (MBBS) for the Academic Year 2024-25 and their names are not reflected in the list may consult the concerned Directorate of Medical Education /Counselling Authority urgently,” the NMC said.
As per the data shared by the ministry of health and family welfare in April 2025, there are a total of 1,18,190 MBBS seats in India . Of which, 1,15,250 seats have been filled through NEET UG counselling 2024-25 conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
The MCC NEET UG counselling began on August 14, 2024, for 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats. The counselling committee conducted 3 rounds of special stray vacancy counselling to fill MBBS seats in India. The counselling process began in August and concluded on December 30. The delay was caused by multiple court cases questioning the transparency and fairness of the exam . Notably, a record 24 lakh students appeared for the NEET exam.
Tamil Nadu has the highest number of 38 government medical colleges, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 35, and Maharashtra with 32 institutes. Karnataka is home to 46 private medical colleges, highest in India.
This year, the National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the NEET UG 2025 exam on May 4 for nearly 23 lakh students. The results will be declared on June 14 at neet.nta.nic.in.
