DUSU VP flags concerns over Hansraj College NIRF data amid ongoing allegations

The vice-president of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU), Rahul Jhansla, has expressed concerns regarding alleged discrepancies in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 data submitted by Hansraj College, amid ongoing controversy around the issue.

In a statement issued on March 20, the DUSU member repeated the claim that the college broke important NIRF rules and gave incorrect information about its faculty in the data it submitted.

According to the statement, 26 temporary or contract teachers were included even though they had not completed the required three years of service. Their joining dates, which are in 2023 and 2024, do not meet the NIRF rules.

“The NIRF rules require teachers to have taught in both semesters of the 2023–24 academic year. However, around 20 teachers who joined in late 2024 were also included in the count,” the DUSU statement said.

The DUSU also claimed that the college gave a wrong list of teachers by including people who no longer work there.

Calling it a serious violation of academic ethics, Jhansla asked the University of Delhi and NIRF to carry out an independent inquiry and take strict action.

Hansraj College has not released any official statement addressing the alleged manipulation of its NIRF 2025 data.

The issue comes at a time when Hansraj College moved up in the NIRF 2025 rankings. It got the third position, going ahead of St. Stephen’s College, while Hindu College stayed at number one, and Miranda House was second.

The ministry of education announced the NIRF 2025 rankings on September 4 and included about 14,163 institutions. New evaluation factors were also added.
