NIRF Ranking 2022: Last four years’ category-wise NIRF rankings

NEW DELHI: The seventh edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2022 will be declared tomorrow by the Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the official website - nirfindia.org at 11 am.
The NIRF Ranking 2022 includes different categories such as Overall, University, College, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Medical, Law and Dental. Last year, a new category of research institution was added to bring the total tally to 11. The NIRF awards ranks to colleges and universities under each category on the basis of parameters.

Last year while announcing the NIRF rankings, Dharmendra Pradhan urged more institutes to come forward to develop regional ranking frameworks and to establish India as a preferred global study destination.
The Indian universities and colleges will be ranked based on teaching, learning and resources (TLR), research and professional practice (RP), graduation outcomes (GO), outreach and inclusivity (OI), peer perception. Apart from these six parameters, there are about 16 to 18 sub-parameters used for ranking the institutions in different categories.

Overall
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras retained the first position in NIRF rankings under the overall category for the last three years. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru had last won the top spot in 2018 and was pushed to second position by IIT Madras in 2019. While IIT Bombay maintained the third position in 2021 as well.
University
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has been ranking first in NIRF university rankings for the last four years, consecutively, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Engineering
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has also topped the NIRF engineering rankings list for the last four years. While IIT Bombay got the second position in 2018, it was replaced by IIT Delhi in 2019, 2020 and 2021. Ever since, IIT Bombay has been retaining the third position.
Management
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad remained at the top in NIRF rankings under the management category for the past three years, except for 2019. In the year 2019, IIM Bangalore had replaced it securing the first position. However, IIM Ahmedabad got the top spot back in last year’s NIRF management rankings.

College
The Delhi University’s Miranda House has been at the top position in NIRF rankings under the college category for the last four years, consecutively. Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Delhi and Loyola College, Chennai bagged second and third position respectively.
Pharmacy
While the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Mohali ranked first in NIRF ranking under the pharmacy category in the year 2018, it was replaced by Jamia Hamdard in 2019, 2020 and in 2021. Last year, Panjab University, Chandigarh and Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani were ranked at second and third place.
Medical
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has been securing the first position under the medical category for the last four years followed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh.
Dental
Last year, the Manipal College of Dental Sciences, Udupi replaced Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (MAIDS), Delhi from the first position in NIRF ranking under the dental category introduced in 2020.

Law
The National Law School of India University, Bengaluru has been bagging the first position in NIRF law ranking since 2018 succeeded by the National Law University (NLU) Delhi and Nalsar University of Law, Hyderabad at the second and third positions respectively.
Architecture
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has been securing the top position in the architecture category for the three years till 2020 followed by IIT Roorkee. However, last year IIT Roorkee climbed one stop to bag first position in Architecture category. IIT Kharagpur was pushed to third position while National Institute of Technology, Calicut was ranked second.
Research
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore was ranked first in the newly introduced Research Institutions category last year. IISc Bangalore was followed by IIT Madras and IIT Bombay.
