NMC issues list of countries for Indian medical students from Ukraine to complete studies

NEW DELHI : The National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified the countries in which Indian medical students from Ukraine can study under the ‘Academic Mobility Programme’. Recently, the Commission allowed Indian medical students who had returned from war-torn Ukraine to relocate to universities in other countries and complete their studies.

According to an official notification from NMC, students can study in medical institutes or colleges in Poland, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Moldova, Slovakia, Spain, Uzbekistan, US, Italy, Belgium, Egypt, Belarus, Latvia, Kyrgyzstan, Greece, Rumania, Sweden, Israel, Iran, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany, Turkey, Croatia and Hungary.

“The said "Academic Mobility Program" is applicable only to the medical colleges/ institutes located in above mentioned countries and the medical students are advised to adopt the mobility program accordingly,” NMC notification said.

The public notice issued by NMC earlier said the mobility programme offered by Ukraine has been considered in the Commission in consultation with the Ministry of External Affairs, wherein it was intimated that the academic mobility programme is a temporary relocation to other universities in different countries globally.

However, the degree will be awarded by the parent Ukrainian university, the official notice from NMC read. "The Commission hereby conveys its no-objection for academic mobility programme in respect of Indian medical students who are studying in Ukraine provided that other criteria of Screening Test Regulations 2002 are fulfilled," the public notice said.

Considering the special circumstances, NMC agreed to recognise the academic mobility programme offered by Ukraine to allow such students to complete their education as the degree will be awarded by the parent Ukrainian university only.
