No physical classes, schools can teach online from Apr 1: Delhi Govt

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Directorate of Education, on Thursday, said that schools cannot hold physical classes for students for the academic year 2021-22. Schools may choose to hold classes in online mode from April 1, the directorate said.

The DoE clarified that students of Classes 9 to 12 may be called to the school “only for providing academic guidance and support” to students for mid-term, board exams or practical exams following strict COVID-19 guidelines.

The Directorate of Education, in a circular, said: “It is again clarified that students of any class should not be called physically in school for academic session 2021-22 till further orders. However, teaching learning activities may be commenced from April 1, 2020, for the students through digital modes for the academic session 2021-22.”

Already, several states have extended school closures due to the rising cases of COVID-19. These include Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi was one of the first areas to close schools in March 2020, after the pandemic had just begun.
