NSUI JMI demands withdrawal of suspension, campus ban against 4 students over spot admission protests

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has asked the JMI administration to withdraw the suspension and campus ban imposed against four students over the alleged irregularities in the university’s spot admission process and protests.

The statement comes amid the students' protest on the JMI campus over alleged corruption in the spot admission process. According to the students, those lower on the waiting list were given admission, whereas, candidates with higher ranks were denied academic entry.

The students' organisation has also demanded to fulfill all their “legitimate and democratic demands” without any further delay.

JMI spot admission irregularities

Moreover, students have issued written complaints to the controller of examination over the basis of the university spot admissions, the publication of merit and waiting lists, and the criteria used to allot seats.

The university administration issued a show cause-cum-suspension-cum-campus ban notice against Dhruv, vice president of NSUI JMI, Tabrez, general secretary, NSUI JMI, Ebin, secretary, NSUI JMI, and Jasim, student at JMI.

“We believe that disciplinary action affecting students' academic and campus rights must follow due process, transparency, fairness, and a meaningful opportunity to be heard. We therefore urge the concerned authorities to reconsider the action immediately and initiate a constructive dialogue with the affected students and their representatives,” the NSUI JMI said in an official statement.

The JMI students’ group stated the central university should “immediately” withdraw the suspension and campus ban imposed on the students.

The NSUI has also demanded fulfilment of the legitimate demands, along with an open and transparent dialogue between the university administration and student representatives.

“No victimization or retaliatory action against students for raising legitimate concerns through democratic and peaceful means,” it added.

The group also said that they stand strong with the affected students and will continue to pursue their demands through peaceful, democratic and lawful means.

They have also called upon the university administration to act promptly, revoke the suspension and campus ban, and address the students’ demands.
