The UGC NET 2026 answer key challenge was designed to be fair to every student, not just the one who raises objections or challenges, NTA said on its official X account.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued a clarification for candidates amid the students' concerns that the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2026 answer key challenges are “too expensive.”

Defending the challenge fee rates, the NTA said that the UGC NET 2026 answer key challenge was designed to be fair to every student, not just the one who raises objections or challenges.
Explaining its point on the UCG NET provisional answer key 2026 challenge price, the NTA said: “One challenge, everyone benefits. If even a single candidate challenges a question, and the subject experts accept the challenge, the revised answer key applies to every candidate who wrote the exam.”
The testing agency further stated that the fee was refunded if the candidate’s challenge was right. Rs 200 per question is given back to the candidate whose challenge is upheld, it added.
'UGC NET answer key challenge fee exists to discourage frivolous objections'
“The fee exists to discourage frivolous challenges, not to profit from genuine ones,” it said.
Therefore, if a candidate has identified a genuine error and raised it, and the challenge was found to be correct, it will not only be refunded but one accurate challenge from any candidate can correct the record for lakhs of others, the NTA said in a tweet on X.
The clarification from the testing agency comes amid the wide criticism over the delay of the UGC NET 2026 provisional answer key and the re-examination of UGC NET June 2026 English, commerce, and sociology subjects.
The re-exam for the UGC NET June 2026 papers was triggered after students raised concerns about multiple discrepancies in the question papers.
The testing agency has formed a committee to check the errors, and has also announced dates for the re-examination. The UGC NET June 2026 exams for English, Commerce, and Sociology subjects will be held on September 9 and 10 in dual shifts.
There will be no additional fee charged for the UGC NET June 2026 re-exams.
