Odisha to fill up 45,000 vacant teaching posts in next 3 yrs: CM

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday announced that his government would fill up 45,000 vacant teaching posts over the next three years. Addressing students at Secondary Board High School in Cuttack on the occasion of National Teachers' Day, the CM asked the pupils not to waste time on social media and instead concentrate on studies.

"The state government will fill up 45,000 teaching vacancies in schools across the state over the next three years," he said. Majhi said education is not only about imparting knowledge, but is a great process of building a human being. Paying tributes to former president Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, the chief minister said the 'Guru-Shishya' tradition is unique to the Indian culture.

Majhi highlights guru’s role in shaping lives

He said the role of the guru has been decisive in shaping everyone's lives, from Lord Ram and Lord Krishna to Emperor Chandragupta Maurya and Hindu monk and philosopher Swami Vivekananda. "Even in today's era, a great personality like 'Missile Man' APJ Abdul Kalam had considered it an honour to introduce himself as a teacher first, despite being in the highest position in the country," the chief minister said.

During his interaction with the students of the school, Majhi, who was himself a teacher before entering politics, advised the pupils to concentrate on studies and put away distractions. "Please do not to waste too much time on social media, and instead and focus on building careers," he told the students.

Majhi highlights education reforms, KG-to-PG scheme

"As students, your first responsibility is to acquire good academic skills and contribute to your own and the country's development. This is the main purpose of our education system," the chief minister said. Outlining his government's resolve to bring about comprehensive reforms in the education system of the state, Majhi said Odisha is the first state in the country that has introduced the 'KG to PG' free education scheme.

Apart from this, 2,200 world-class 'Godavarish Mishra Adarsh Pratamika Vidyalayas' are being built at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore and 45,000 nursery schools have been opened for pre-school children, he said.

The CM reiterated the government's commitment to provide mid-day meals and textbooks to students of classes 9 and 10, and 'Shahid Madho Singh Hath Kharcha Yojana' for tribal children aiming to reduce dropout rates. The CM also felicitated some teachers on the occasion.
