Odisha government announced closure of all government and private schools for students up to Class 10 as temperature touched 40 degree celsius.

NEW DELHI: The Odisha government has announced to close all government and private schools up to Class 10 and anganwadis in the state for five days starting from today, April 12 to April 16 in view of the heat wave.
“In view of intense heat wave condition, Anganwadis centres and all schools (both govt and private) up to STD 10th will remain closed from 12th April to 16th April, 2023,” said the Information and Public Relations Department in a tweet.

Recently, the state government allowed the districts to change the school timings in view of the heat conditions. The schools have also been asked to ensure the provision of drinking water and other facilities required to beat the heat.

The state capital recorded 39.7 degree Celsius on April 10 and the temperature was expected to touch 41 degree Celsius on April 11, the weather office forecast said. Jharsuguda in the western region was the hottest with 40.4 degree Celsius on Monday followed by Baripada in the north reporting 40 degrees Celsius.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted a rise in temperature across the state till April 16. It said that the normal temperature at many places in the state may touch 40 degrees celsius by April 12.
