Pondicherry University English professor awarded Hungarian research scholarship

Professor Ujjwal Jana has been awarded scholarship to carry out research at ELTE Department of English Studies, Eotvos Lorand University.
NEW DELHI : A professor from the English department of Pondicherry University has been awarded with a Hungarian research scholarship. Ujjwal Jana, professor of English has been awarded a Hungarian State scholarship for 2022-2023, funded by Tempus Foundation of the Government of Hungary to carry out a collaborative research at the ELTE Department of English Studies, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest Hungary.
Professor Jana has edited an anthology on Digital Culture in Humanities: Contemporary Trends by ABS Books, a Delhi-based publishing house in January 2023. He has been working in the area of Indian poetics, critical humanities, and translation studies, and has published several research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals.

Under his supervision, five scholars were awarded PhD, who are all placed well in academic positions in the country and several MA students have successfully completed the research projects.
Jana has been a fulbright visiting lecturer, India Studies Programme, Indiana University, Bloomington, U S in 2007-2008 and was also nominated for the Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship in the U K for 2013. Moreover, the English professor got the Sahitya Akademi Travel Grants Award in 2014, and was a visiting faculty in the English departments of Leipzig University, Germany and University of Johannesburg, South Africa, in 2014 and in 2017, respectively.

Further, Jana was awarded the Ministry of Education, Govt of India, funded international collaborative project in digital humanities under SPARC (Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration) to collaborate with Western Sydney University, Australia, for 2019-2023.
Pondicherry University vice-chancellor professor Gurmeet Singh congratulated and felicitated Jana for receiving the prestigious award from the Govt of Hungary and publishing an edited volume on digital humanities.
