NEW DELHI, November 2: Taking stock of the issues related to direct recruitment, vacancies and promotions, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has asked the Central Paramilitary Forces and Delhi Police to fill the existing 55,000 and 10,261 vacant posts respectively. To fill the existing vacancies, the minister has further asked for special mechanisms through which delays in the recruitment process can be curtailed, so that it can be done in a time bound manner.

The minister directed the paramilitary forces to do so in a meeting held recently, which was attended by Union Minister of State for Home Hansraj Gangaram Ahir, Union Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, commissioners of Delhi Police and director generals of paramilitary forces.

Out of the 55,000 vacancies, 21,000 posts are vacant in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and 16,000 in Border Security Forces (BSF). In these vacancies, 233 posts are for deputy commandants, while 140 are for commandants and DIGs.

Apart from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Forces (BSF), the other forces with existing vacant posts include Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Assam Rifles, and Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). The existing vacant posts in the paramilitary forces are a result of death, resignation, creation of new posts, retirement or raising of new battalions.

Presently, the strength of paramilitary forces is around 10 lakh where in the last two years, only  1.35 lakh candidates have been recruited through different recruitment modes. However, this does not fulfil the total requirement and thus, another half a lakh posts need to be filled in these forces.
