Reduce NEET PG 2023 cut-off to allow more candidates in counselling, demands doctors’ body

NEW DELHI: A doctors’ association has demanded a reduction in National Eligibility Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET PG) 2023 qualifying cut off in order to fill the vacant PG seats. The United Doctors’ Front Association (UDFA) wrote a letter to the National Medical Commission (NMC) demanding reduction in qualifying cut-off, more than previous years, so as to allow more candidates in the counselling process.

The doctors’ body argued that currently, the eligibility criteria to appear in NEET PG counselling 2023 is leading to a large number of vacant seats. UDFA mentioned that the registration for the mop up round of NEET PG counselling will end on September 12 and said that if the National Board of Examination (NBE) does not reduce cut-off, it will be an “injustice” for the aspirants.

“If NBE will not revise the lowering in qualifying cut-off percentile to participate in ongoing counselling the vacancy will be same which will be UNJUSTICE for the potential candidates for getting admission in Post graduate courses. Large number of PG seats will be wasted for current academic year. India needs large number of specialists so that they can serve this nation being as a specialist,” the UDFA president said in a statement.

The doctors’ body recalled that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took the decision to lower the NEET PG qualifying cut-off percentile for counselling in 2020, 2021, and 2022 to fill the vacant seats.

“Although that reduction in Qualifying percentile criteria wasn't sufficient to fill all the vacant PG seats. For this Year qualifying cut-off percentile must be reduced up to a certain level more than previous year, so that all clinical and non- clinical seats can be filled,” it added.

“Therefore, on the behalf of all those MBBS doctors and various representations , we request you to kindly please release the reduced qualifying cut-off percentile with immediate effect so that they can get a fair chance to appear in ongoing NEET PG 2023 Mop-up and stray rounds counselling,” UDFA urged NMC.
