School Closed News: These states shut schools in view of cold wave, festivals
Schools in UP, Delhi, Haryana have announced winter vacation for students. Know more on school closures.

NEW DELHI: Various states have announced closure of schools owing to different reasons. While schools in Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh will remain closed due to the cold wave, Telangana has decided to give Makar Sankranthi holidays to students from January 13 to 16. Schools in Ayodhya will remain shut on January 22 in view of the Ram temple consecration ceremony.
States which announced winter vacation 2024 for schools have extended the dates due to extreme weather conditions. Take a look at all the cities and states where schools will remain closed for the next few days:
Punjab
All government, government-aided, and private schools in Punjab up to Class 10 will remain closed till January 14 due to extreme cold wave. The Punjab government extended the winter vacation which was initially scheduled till December 31.
Delhi
Delhi mayor Shelly Oberoi ordered closure of all schools under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) from January 8 to January 12. The MCD schools will reopen for classes on January 15.
Education minister Atishi recently announced that Delhi primary schools will remain shut till January 12 due to the prevailing cold weather.
Moreover, schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) also took safety measures and announced closure. The Gautam Buddha Nagar administration ordered Noida and Greater Noida schools to keep the gates closed till January 14. The minimum temperature in the district was recorded at 9 degree Celsius on January 6.
Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh government has also taken measures in view of the cold wave. Lucknow schools were shut for classes up to eight till January 10. The district magistrate had proposed that schools in the city offer online classes whenever required. On the other hand, Bareilly schools will remain closed till January 14 due to severe fog and cold wave.
Haryana
Haryana announced winter vacation for students from January 1 to 15, 2024. All government, aided, and private schools in the state will stay shut for 15 days. The state chief minister ML Khattar gave the information and asked schools to comply with the order.
