NEW DELHI: As COVID-19, Omicron cases in India tick upwards, various state governments have declared ‘schools, colleges closed’ along with universities and other educational institutions on an immediate basis while announcing new COVID-19 curbs such as imposing night curfew and weekend curfew.

COVID-19 vaccine: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced that over 1 crore children have received Covid vaccine so far.
School closed news: Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, West Bengal, Karnataka, Goa, Haryana, Telangana are some of the states that have decided to shut schools and colleges due to rising cases of Omicron, Covid-19 in India. However, several states have decided to keep schools open for higher classes like 10th, 12th due to upcoming board exams.

COVID-19 in India: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal along with others have tested COVID-19 positive. Several higher education institutions have also reported Covid cases such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, IIT Kharagpur, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Hamirpur etc.

Karnataka Covid Cases: The Covid test positivity rate in Karnataka has crossed 10% as Coronavirus infection cases rise to 14,473, making the active cases in the state 73,260, said Sudhakar K, minister of health and family welfare.

New Covid-19 Guidelines: Andhra Pradesh government imposed a Covid curfew in the state between 11 PM and 5 AM. The curfew will start from January 18 to 31, said an AP government order.

COVID-19 Update India: Kejriwal government to launch Yoga classes in Delhi amid rising Covid cases to strengthen immunity
Online Yoga Classes Delhi: Delhi government is set to launch online yoga and pranayam classes for COVID-19 patients in Delhi. The online yoga session will be made available to those patients in home isolation from January 12 onwards, said Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, as per PTI reports.
The free yoga course in Delhi is provided under the "Dilli ki Yogshala" programme. "Eight classes will be provided with one hour each from 6 am to 11 am and 4 pm to 7 pm", Kejriwal said.

Covid News Tamil Nadu: K. Ponmudi, the higher education minister of Tamil Nadu announced the postponement of all university end-semester exams scheduled to start from January 20 onwards, owing to the surge in COVID-19 cases in Tamil Nadu. He further said that the new exam schedule will be released a week before the exam date, reported the Hindu.

Covid-19 India Update: India registers 1.68 lakh new Covid cases; Maharashtra registers maximum Omicron cases
Covid India: India witnessed 1,68,063 new Covid-19 coronavirus cases, including 4,461 cases of the Omicron variant, as per the latest Union health ministry data. There are 8,21,446 active cases currently in India. This is the highest in 208 days. About 277 new Covid fatalities have also been reported.
Omicron India: Of the total 4,461 cases of the Omicron variant cases, Maharashtra registered the maximum number of 1,247 cases followed by Rajasthan at 645, Delhi 546, Karnataka 479 and Kerala 350, said a PTI report.
Schools and colleges remain closed in many states. Weekend curfews and night curfews are also imposed.

Assam schools to close, suspending physical classes for both public and private school students studying from Class 1 to Class 5 from January 7 onwards, owing to the increasing Omicron, Covid cases in the state, Himanta Biswa Sarma, chief minister of Assam said today. The schools are to remain closed till January 30. In Guwahati, schools will be closed for Classes 1 to 8, Sarma said.

All colleges, Universities, Technical Institutions (other than Medical/ Nursing Colleges and institutions under H& FW,Odisha) shall remain closed till 5 am of 1st Feb, 2022 wef: 10th Jan, 2022. All hostels of concerned institutions shall also remain closed.
