SGFI has suspended its affiliation with CBSEWSO and IBSSO. However, the board has ensured that no student-athlete is denied participation in competitions solely because of the decision.
The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) has suspended its affiliation with CBSE Board School Games Welfare Society (CBSEWSO) and International Board School Sports Organization (IBSSO), following a decision made by its executive committee.
The SGFI committee decided on August 9, as per the provisions of the SGFI Constitution, to cancel its affiliation. Both CBSEWSO and IBSSO will no longer have privileges as affiliated units of SGFI until further orders.
According to the official notice, all CBSE-affiliated schools shall continue to participate in SGFI events through the CBSE unit, and their participation rights will remain fully protected. The board ensures that no CBSE student is excluded from competitions due to affiliation issues.

"Students of IB-affiliated schools or any other schools coming under IBSSO shall continue to participate in SGFI events through their respective State/UT SGFI units, wherever such schools are situated, with full and unrestricted rights. This ensures that no student-athlete is denied participation in SGFI competitions solely because of these suspensions,” the official SGFI notice reads.
Furthermore, CBSE has assured that the academic and sporting aspirations of its students remain the top priority, and all required coordination will continue with SGFI to ensure smooth, uninterrupted participation in school sports at the national and international levels.
The School Games Federation of India (SGFI) is recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS), Government of India, and is affiliated to the International School Sport Federation (ISF).
