School News: Which states have closed schools?

In the latest school news, over half a dozen states have shut schools or postponed reopening due to rising cases of COVID-19.

NEW DELHI: State governments, over the past few weeks, have closed schools as COVID-19 cases are rising in different parts of the country. Most states have announced early holidays or extended school closures as precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19.

Here we have compiled a list of all the states that have announced school closures.

School opening date in UP

The Uttar Pradesh Government announced early Holi holidays for Classes 1 to 8 of both private and public schools from March 24 to March 31 owing to rising COVID-19 cases in the country. The government later extended the school opening date in UP to April 4.

Punjab school news

The Punjab Government, on March 19, ordered schools to be shut till March 31 amid rising COVID-19 cases. The government later extended the date for school reopening in Punjab to April 10.

Chhattisgarh Schools closed

The Chhattisgarh Government closed all schools on March 21, almost a month after schools were allowed to reopen for Classes 9 to 12. The government announced that all students, except those in Class 10 and Class 12, were promoted without exams.

Himachal Pradesh school news

The Himachal Pradesh government ordered the closure of all educational institutions including universities, colleges, technical institutes and schools till April 4. However, schools that have exams ongoing will be allowed to stay open.

School education Telangana

The Telangana Government closed all schools, along with other educational institutions, on March 24 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19. The Telangana State Secondary Council (SSC) exams are scheduled to be held from May 17. The Deccan Chronicle reports that schools may reopen next week in Telangana.

AP school news

The Andhra Pradesh Government announced that half-day classes will begin for students of Classes 1 to 10 from April 1. The government also said that Class 10 exams will be held as scheduled in June.

Tamil Nadu school news

The Tamil Nadu Government announced that schools will remain closed from March 22 owing to rising COVID-19 cases. The government also promoted students without examinations for

Classes 9,10 and 11. The Madras High Court had upheld the government order despite protests from a section of teachers.

West Bengal school news

The West Bengal Government had earlier announced that no physical classes will be held in school till May. The order remains in place as the West Bengal election 2021 is about to take place.

Madhya Pradesh school news

The Madhya Pradesh Government announced that all classes for Classes 1 to 8 will be closed till April 15 owing to the rising COVID-19 cases in the state. The government had earlier announced that the new session will resume for Classes 1 to 8 from April 1.
