A regular morning, alive with the chatter of students assembling for prayers, quickly turned into tragedy on Friday when a portion of the Piplodi government school building in Jhalawar district collapsed, killing seven children.
The module will have two parts—first for students from class 3 to 8 and another one for students from class 9 to 12.
Marine police station at Talchua has detained the accused teacher after the headmaster of Naga Narayan high school in Dangamal informed the police of the teacher's advances on a group of class 7 girl students.
Addressing reporters, General Education Minister Sivankutty said the Director of Public Instruction (DPI), in his report, had cited "serious lapses" that led to the student’s accidental death.
The situation improved since June 2024, when nearly 29,830 centres operated for less than 20 per cent of working days. In June 2025, states with the most poorly functioning centres included Uttar Pradesh (3,803), Bihar (1,295), Arunachal Pradesh (1,454), and Manipur (554).
The children were taken out of the debris with the help of teachers and villagers, the Rajasthan police said.
The district's order applies to all government, aided and private institutions, including primary and high schools. The directive is issued after the district disaster management authority reviewed weather data from the past 24 hours.
