NEW DELHI: The Students Federation of India (SFI) United Kingdom Unit participated in the national march for Palestine held in London on October 5. The national march for Palestine, which took place near Russell Square, saw participation from a wide range of organisations, including national student unions, teachers' associations, and workers’ collectives.
This marked the one-year of Israeli violence against Palestinians, with millions across 60 cities in 36 countries uniting for protests and calling for peace amid widespread devastation. In his Facebook post, SFI's general secretary Mayukh Biswas emphasized on the growing Israeli state violence and called it a violation of international law, with the violence now extending into neighboring countries.
Israeli settler-colonialism must be addressed for peace, says Biswas
Biswas stated that the Israeli settler-colonial occupation and apartheid must be addressed for any hope of peace in the region. “These attacks have taken on an expansionist character and crept into neighbouring nation-states which have refused to tow the Zionist line. Addressing the root cause of this ongoing violence, Israeli settler-colonial occupation and apartheid, is a pre-condition to any peace in the region,’’ Biswas’ Facebook post read.

SFI’s appeal to increase pressure on governments
On October 3, SFI posted on X, calling for people to join the October 5 march to increase pressure on the government to stop arming Israel. The SFI post read, “Join us on 5 October as we march for Palestine in London. After 1 year of Israel's genocide against the Palestinian people, we must step-up the pressure on our government to #StopArmingIsrael”
SFI UK’s active role in weekly demonstrations
The SFI UK unit has been an active presence in weekly demonstrations in London, showing their commitment to the Palestinian cause. On this occasion, they were one of many groups that set up stalls to raise funds and awareness for Palestine. Biswas highlighted the importance of unyielding solidarity in the struggle for Palestinian justice, urging other progressive groups to join the movement.
Mayukh Biswas calls for solidarity
Biswas posted, “The fight for justice in Palestine requires tireless and unflinching struggle. The organisation is determined to uphold these aims and urges other progressive individuals and groups to join in solidarity.”
