NEW DELHI: Sharda University’s Center for Cyber Security and Cryptology (CCSC) conducted a webinar on “Cryptocurrency World: Crimes, Crooks & Cops” in association with Future Crime Research Foundation (FCRF).

The objective of the programme was to educate about the latest developments in blockchain, e-money, CBDC, tokenization, NFT, crypto-asset service providers (CASPs), crypto-investment scams, and the regulatory and legislative landscape.

Over 650 participants attended the webinar from different disciplines such as Indian police, corporates, academics, and law enforcement agencies.

The webinar started with Shashank Shekhar from FCRF briefing about their respective organizations and the research work undertaken at these centres. Dr Nihar Ranjan Roy, CCSC, Sharda University during his talk mentioned the myths related to cryptocurrency and briefly explained the technology and how blockchain works. The programme was hosted by Dr Venus Dillu, Assistant Professor, Center for Cyber Security and Cryptology, Sharda University.

Professor Triveni Singh, IPS, SP Cyber Crime UP police talked about the fraud and concerns related to cryptocurrency. He also discussed a few case studies on how cryptocurrency can be used to facilitate money laundering and other illegal activities because of its decentralized nature and lack of regulation. He ignited the minds of the audience with so many thought-provoking questions.

Dr Nihar Ranjan Roy, CCSC, Sharda University said, “Cryptocurrency is a virtual currency that uses cryptography for security. It is decentralized and operates independently of a central bank for example bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin. It is very popular these days and few believe that it will be the currency in future”.

Mr Rushi Mehta, Senior Consultant I4C discussed law enforcement regarding cryptocurrency. He cited that the regulations around cryptocurrency in India are constantly evolving, so it's important to stay informed about the latest developments.

Explaining blockchain technology, Jayjit Biswas, Founder, Elite Web3 Forum explained blockchain technology in detail and discussed its potential applications including cryptocurrency, financial exchanges, insurance, logistics and supply chain tactics.

Subsequently, there was a Q and A session in the event where the queries of the participants were patiently answered by the panellists, and the webinar ended with extending thanks to all the speakers, participants and organizers.
