NEW DELHI: The Society Against Violence in Education (SAVE) to release a report 'State of Ragging in India 2022-24’ on International Day for the Right to the Truth on March 24.

The report will include data from over 3,100 complaints registered with the national anti-ragging helpline highlighting the troubling trends in Indian educational institutions.

According to the SAVE statement, the report entails institutions with the highest number of ragging complaints revealing medical colleges account for 38.6% of all complaints despite the medical students making up only 1.1% of the student population in India.

The report says 51 students died due to ragging between 2022 and 2024, which is close to the number of Kota suicides, which was 57 in the same period.

The vice president of SAVE Gaurav Singhal said: "Every year we get lists of India's best colleges and universities. This year, let us also get a list of colleges and universities that report the most number of ragging cases. We cannot afford to overlook this crisis any longer."

The ragging report calls for reforms such as accepting several anonymous complaints, ensures CCTV surveillance in hostels, and establish anti-ragging squads with trained security personnel. The contact details will be made available to freshers.

The national secretary for awareness and advocacy Ajay Govind at SAVE said: "Ragging is always a topic of discussion only when a serious case comes out in the media. With this report, we hope to bring the issue to the spotlight in a way that makes all stakeholders pay attention and think about ways to create ragging-free campuses."
