The university has suspended the entry of two accused male students to their academic departments and the hostel

The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has issued a public notice saying that it will form a high-level committee to investigate an incident in which two male students have allegedly questioned a female student inappropriately outside the girls’ hostel and tried to intimidate her.
The incident had prompted many female students to meet the vice-chancellor, submitting a representation demanding strict action against the involved students. The SSPU notice stated that the vice-chancellor will appoint the committee members who will Inquire into the incident.
The public notice reads, “Accordingly, a police complaint is being filed by the university against the students involved, and the admission/entry of both students to their academic departments and the hostel is being suspended with immediate effect.”

The university has said that strict action will be taken against those found responsible. The inquiry committee will examine the incident, and further disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty.
The university has not specified whether the suspension of entry will remain in force until the inquiry is completed. The committee’s findings will help establish the circumstances leading to the incident and determine responsibility. The notice, however, also did not specify or mention a timeline for the inquiry.
The latest announcement by Savitribai Phule Pune University has come as the university is facing renewed scrutiny over hostel safety and the effectiveness of its campus security arrangements.
