University of Tasmania invites applications for master of public health; programme starts on July 21

NEW DELHI: The University of Tasmania (UTAS) has opened applications for its Master of Public Health (MPH) programme for 2025. The two-year postgraduate course is designed for individuals working in the health sector and those seeking a career in public health.

The programme will begin on July 21, 2025. There is no fixed application deadline, but students must apply for their Confirmation of Enrolment (COE) at least 2.5 to 3 months before the course start date. “While there is no deadline, students are expected to apply for their COE 2.5- 3 months prior to the course start date,” the press release said. The total tuition fee for the course is approximately 75,748 Australian dollars.

University of Tasmania: Eligibility criteria for MPH programme

The majority of the UTAS postgraduate courses require credentials equal to an Australian bachelor's degree in order to be admitted. Applicants must meet the English language criteria, attain the required grade in qualifying studies, and pass any preparatory courses to be eligible for an offer. The eligibility criteria required to be fulfilled by the candidates for admission to MPH programme is given below.

• International English Language Testing System (Academic): Minimum score of 6.5, with no individual band below 6.0.
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (Internet-Based Test): Minimum score of 88, with at least 21 in reading, listening, and speaking, and 25 in writing.
• Pearson Test of English Academic: Minimum score of 65, with no score lower than 58.
• Cambridge English C1 Advanced: Minimum score of 176, with at least 169 in each skill.

University of Tasmania: Programme curriculum

In the first year of the programme, students will study global health systems, public health intervention practices, health research, and systems thinking to earn a recognised degree. In the second year, they will gain knowledge in health economics, communicable disease epidemiology, environmental health, and noncommunicable disease prevention.

Students will have the option to complete elective coursework units or work on an individual research project under the guidance of a subject-matter expert, which may serve as a foundation for a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). “The MPH curriculum is benchmarked against competency standards articulated by the Council of Public Health Institutions in Australasia (CAPHIA). There is currently no professional accreditation required for public health tertiary qualifications,” the official press release said.
