SWAYAM is a massive open online course of the union government designed to achieve the three principles of education policy -- access, equity and quality. The objective of the effort is to provide the best teaching learning resources to all. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
The courses hosted on SWAYAM are in four modes -- video lecture, specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded and printed, self-assessment tests through tests and quizzes and an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts. Steps have been taken to enrich the learning experience by using audio-video and multimedia and state of the art pedagogy and technology. The national coordinators are AICTE, NPTEL, UGC, CEC, NCERT, NIOS, IGNOU, IIMB, and NITTTR.
