Schools and colleges in six Tamil Nadu districts will be closed due to a heavy rain alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

NEW DELHI: Tamil Nadu government has declared a one-day holiday for all schools and colleges in districts including Chennai, Thiruvallur, Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram, Vellore and Ranipet tomorrow due a heavy rainfall alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu over the nest few days, therefore, all classes in schools and colleges and state government or private institutions have been ordered to remain closed on November 11.

The weather department has forecasted extremely heavy rainfall in Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Ranipet tomorrow while Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Delta districts has a forecast from heavy to very heavy rainfall as the low-pressure area persists over the South-West Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sri Lanka.
Flood monitoring cameras have been installed by authorities in localities vulnerable to flooding. The storm-water drain infrastructure improvement work is completed in some areas and it is continuing in other parts of the city.
The state also announced holidays for all school and colleges on November 2, 2022 in districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Kallakurichi and Delta. Barricades were put up in the vew of the ongoing construction of the Chennai Metrorail phase-2 project. The IMD has predicted a forcast of 35% to 75% higher rainfall this season in Tamil Nadu.
