Education ministry spent just 4% of SSA funds in Tamil Nadu for 2025-26

The education ministry had spent only 4% of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) funds in Tamil Nadu in the academic year 2025-26. A total of Rs 1896.42 crore had been allocated in 2025-26, of which only Rs 87.79 crore has been released by the central government.

According to the data shared by the education ministry, in total, 748.78 crore central and state share funds were utilised for Tamil Nadu SSA allocation. Notably, to expand the digital infrastructure in Tamil Nadu government schools, the ministry has approved 2,683 smart classrooms and 2,166 ICT labs.

However, the state has refused to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the PM SHRI scheme, leaving schools grappling with shortages of staff, infrastructure, and basic learning materials.

Additionally, according to the data shared by department of schools education and literacy in Lok Sabha, a total of 13,076 PM SHRI schools have been established across all states, out of which 1,725 PM SHRI schools have been selected from Uttar Pradesh, and 935 from Andhra Pradesh, the highest across all states.

The details of the funds released in the last three years are as follows.
