Tata Power Skill Development Institute and SCGJ will focus on designing skill development programmes to meet India’s net-zero emission goals.

NEW DELHI: Tata Power Skill Development Institute (TPSDI) and the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) have signed an agreement to launch multiple joint programmes across all TPSDI centres in the country for enhancing skills of youth in the renewable energy sector. As per the agreement, TPSDI will also aim at increasing the number of individuals to pursue careers in green jobs.
The agreement was signed by SCGJ CEO Praveen Saxena and Himal Tewari, CHRO, chief sustainability and CSR, Tata Power. The collaboration between Tata Power and SCGJ will focus on providing expertise and resources, facilitating the development of skill development programmes in the country.
Tata Power said through the partnership it aims to meet the demand of skilled workers in the renewable energy sector in order to propel the transition towards sustainability. “With the country's ambitious goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and installation of 500 GW of renewable capacity, Tata Power recognises the urgency of skilled workers in the sector,” Tata Power said.
The partners will train students in advance renewable energy skills through specialised programmes, knowledge sharing, and capacity building. The agreement also involves rolling out multiple green hydrogen laboratories and launching solar training programmes. They will provide joint certification and accreditation.
Tata Power and SCGJ will also ensure industry alignment to emphasise on curriculum development, resource sharing, and active participation.

Tata Power launched TPSDI in 2015. The TPSDI has six centres and through its five facilities is providing training in Delhi, Mumbai, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Kerala, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. TPSDI has so far trained more than 1 lakh persons in green and power-sector skill sets.
SCGJ has been established under the National Skill Development Mission and promoted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
