UGC asks colleges, universities to host sessions on meditation, mental health

Art of Living foundation has developed modules, its trained faculty will offer free one hour introductory sessions on meditation and mental health.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked colleges and universities to host one hour introductory sessions on meditation and mental health for a positive mental health. The commission has also asked educational institutions to nominate a senior faculty as ‘meditation ambassador’ for the programme.

“The higher educational institutions and their affiliated colleges or institutions are requested to encourage students and faculty members to take benefit of this program by introducing to meditation as a solution for positive mental health. Each university or college may fill up the request form on tiny.cc/hgd-college and nominate a senior faculty /staff as "Meditation Ambassador" for this program,” read an official notification from UGC. The Art of Living will directly contact and coordinate with the nominated meditation ambassadors to conduct these sessions, it said.

Ravi Shankar, the founder of Art of Living has developed the modules for the programme. The trained faculty from the foundation will conduct these sessions free of any cost to the interested organizations (subject to capacity and execution plan), UGC informed.

UGC further said that the Ministry of Culture has collaborated with the Art of Living foundation and launched a campaign "Har Ghar Dhyan" to conduct one hour introductory sessions on meditation and mental health for people from all walks of life, under the aegis of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
