UGC begins registration for SWAYAM course on community engagement and social responsibility

UGC has issued a list of MOOCs offered by UGC, NPTEL, IGNOU, IIM Bangalore, CEC for July 2023 semester at swayam.gov.in.

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has commenced the registration for the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) on community engagement and social responsibility offered on the SWAYAM portal. The commission has also released the list of MOOCs ready to be offered by the educational institutions for the July 2023 semester. Candidates can apply for the MOOC on the official platform, swayam.gov.in/UGC.

“I am delighted to inform you that considering the huge response from the learners across nation, UGC has also opened the registration for the SWAYAM Course on "Community Engagement and Social Responsibility" which is a major recommendation of NEP 2020, as part of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) in lndia on the SWAYAM Platform,” said UGC secretary in a letter to the universities.

The list of MOOCs includes courses offered by institutions including UGC, National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. The PDF includes details on course start and end dates, number of credits, week duration and SWAYAM platform course link.

UGC informed that currently 289 universities have approved the credit transfer for SWAYAM courses. It asked other universities to inform if they have approved credit transfers.

“I urge all HEls to consider recognising and accepting the SWAYAM courses offered on the SWAYAM platform,” the secretary added. He said that by incorporating the courses, the universities can achieve outcomes such as enhanced learning, flexibility and inclusivity, leveraging technology, quality assurance, credit transfer and national integration.

UGC further requested the universities to form a committee to explore the feasibility of accepting SWAYAM courses as per the University Grants Commission (Credit Framework for Online Learning Courses through Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds)

Regulations, 2021. The committee will also address any potential concerns and devise a framework for credit transfer and integration into existing programmes.
