Higher education secretary Vineet Joshi takes temporary charge of UGC

The former UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar resigned from the post of UGC chairman on April 7 after attaining the age of 65.
NEW DELHI: Vineet Joshi, secretary of department of higher education, ministry of education has been given an additional charge as UGC chairman. He will discharge his duties till the post is filled or until further order.
The former UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar resigned from the post of UGC chairman on April 7 after attaining the age of 65.
“Dr Vineet Joshi, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education is hereby entrusted the additional charge of the post of Chairman, UGC till the appointment of a regular Chairman, UGC or till he ceases to be Member, UGC or until further orders, whichever is the earliest,” the UGC said.
On January 16, the ministry of education appointed Vineet Joshi as the secretary of higher education, MoE. Before this appointment, he served as the Chief Secretary of Manipur.
Joshi completed mechanical engineering from IIT Kanpur and did his MBA from Indian Institute of Foreign Trade. He has held several positions in the education sector, including director-general of the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts entrance examinations and formerly recruitment exams as well. He also was the chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
Dr Joshi, a 1992-batch IAS officer, previously served as chief secretary of Manipur , resident commissioner of Manipur. and has held many key roles in various central ministries.
