NEW DELHI: In yet another controversy, UGC NET 2024 history answer key has over 60 wrong answers, candidates wrote to the National Testing Agency (NTA) requesting it to issue updated answers as several students are unable to afford the objection fees to challenge questions. Many have also taken to social media platforms to raise the issue. The NTA recently published the UGC NET answer key 2024 for rescheduled exam held on August 27, 28, 29, 30, and September 2, 3, 4, 5.

“The fact that there are over 60 incorrect answers in the answer key for History paper (Shift I) of the UGC NET 2024 (rescheduled) test is quite worrying. The student body is experiencing a wave of anxiety. Many applicants are unable to afford the high costs associated with contesting the answers. Please release an updated answer key that is error-free. This will restore the fairness and integrity of the examination and will bring justice to the candidates,” the letter read.

Background wave

The NTA conducted the UGC NET history paper on August 29 and the provisional answer key for the subject was issued on the official website, csirnet.nta.ac.in, yesterday. The UGC NET answer key challenge last date is today.

UGC NET ‘scam’

Muhamamd Shaheel, a PG graduate from University of Hyderabad who wrote the history paper told Careers360: “When the marks were calculated using UGC NET June 2024 provisional answer key, many students got only 20 marks. Dissatisfied with the results, we consulted coaching centres and found out that over 60 questions in the answer key are wrong.” Following this, several students sent an email to the NTA, which later uploaded a revised answer key. However, students have again expressed disappointment and claimed that the latest answer key also has errors.

Candidates will have to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs 200 to raise objections against the answer key. To challenge 60 questions, one has to pay Rs 12,000. “Some students are also suspecting financial fraud. Even if they (NTA) checked for answers on Google, the answer key would have more correct answers. But, many candidates would have challenged the answer key yesterday itself and the NTA would have also got the money. That’s why people are calling it a scam.”

“The discrepancies in the answer key is not just for the history, but for other papers as well,” he added.

“It is extremely concerning that answer key published for UGC NET 2024 (rescheduled) examination for History Paper (subject code: 06) shift I has more than 60 inaccurate answers. This has led to a wave of anxiety amongst student community. The exam was held on 29 August, 2024,” a X user wrote.
