NEW DELHI: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has concluded the University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC NET 2024) for the June session today, June 18. The NTA UGC NET exam was conducted in two shifts - shift 1 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm and shift 2 from 3 pm to 6 pm. The test was held as OMR-based in offline mode for the first time.
The UGC NET exam 2024 will be held for 83 subjects across 541 exam centres. Unlike last session, candidates will be appearing in an OMR-based test in offline mode.
UGC NET 2024 exam consisted of two papers. Paper 1 included 50 questions, each carrying two marks, for a total of 100 marks. This paper evaluates candidates on teaching and research aptitude, reasoning ability, reading comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness. Paper 2 comprised 100 questions, each carrying two marks worth 200 marks.
The UGC NET 2024 exam analysis for the June session exam will be released soon. An assistant professor rated the exam as simple and said that school-level questions were asked in the second paper. Meanwhile, various candidates complained of far-off centres, mismanagement, carbon copy less OMR sheets in the exam.
The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year to determine the eligibility of candidates for recruitment of assistant professors in Indian universities and colleges and for awarding of the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). Starting from this year, UGC has also allowed the universities to admit students to their PhD programmes based on NET scores.

As per candidates who appeared for UGC NET 2024, paper 2 was easy as compared to last year.
UGC NET 2024 candidates who appeared for the June session exam today are concerned over the absence of carbon copy in the OMR sheets. According to aspirants, carbon copy less OMR sheets will lead to fraud as students will not be able to make claims. "In my opinion, the absence of the carbon copy of the OMR sheet is alarming for genuine aspirants. It clearly means that the original OMR sheets of the deserving and even the undeserving candidates can be hijacked & can easily be defaced with the utmost utter favouritism," a candidate said in a post on X.
An assistant professor on X rated today's UGC NET 2024 exam as 'simple'. According to the professor, direct and school-level questions were asked in the exam. The expected UGC NET cut off 2024 for the June session is 170+ for NET and 200+ for JRF, he said.
A candidate who appeared for the UGC NET June 2024 exam held today alleged that the exam centre was very poor with no proper desks, no washroom, and complained that students' bags went missing. "NTA, we give you money 1200, 600, 300, in return you send us to some village so far away from Lucknow for the paper, SDSN is an inter college. There is no washroom in Deori, no proper desks, no path. The person keeping the bags was very careless, many bags went missing," he said in a post on X.

Taking to X, an aspirant said, "UGC NET centers located in the outskirts of the city caused us trouble in finding transportation back from such interior locations. When you allot centres, please make sure that it's easily accessible or the centres provide a shuttle service to the main roads."
