NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has introduced Disaster Management as a subject in the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) exam. The Disaster management discipline will be included in the existing list of UGC NET subjects starting December 2024. The UGC NET exam is conducted twice a year, in June and December.

In a public notice issued on June 13, UGC secretary, Manish R. Joshi announced that, based on recommendations from an expert committee, the commission decided in its 580th meeting on May 15, 2024, to add disaster management to the list of UGC-NET subjects starting December 2024.

UGC NET 2024: Disaster management syllabus

The Disaster Management subject syllabus for UGC NET 2024 exam include the following:

  • Introduction to disaster management
  • Research methodology for disaster management
  • Legal framework, policies and governance
  • Society, development and disasters
  • Community based disaster risk reduction and disaster management
  • Health and disasters
  • Environment, ecology and climate change aspects
  • Remote sensing and geographic information system
  • Information and communications technology and other emerging technologies
  • Emergency response and management

UGC NET 2024 exam tomorrow

The UGC NET 2024 admit cards have been issued. The UGC NET 2024 exam is scheduled on June 18. The duration of the exam is three hours. The UGC NET 2024 exam will be held in 2 shifts- from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and from 3 pm to 6 pm.

UGC NET 2024 exam pattern

The UGC NET 2024 exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The UGC NET 2024 paper consists of two papers: Paper-I, which assesses general knowledge and teaching aptitude, and Paper-II, which focuses on the candidate's chosen subject. Paper 1 will comprise of 50 questions, each carrying two marks. On the other hand, paper 2 comprises 100 questions, each carrying 2 marks. Paper 1 carries a total of 100 marks and paper 2 is worth 200 marks.
