NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission - National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) application form for December 2024 session is expected to be out soon. Last year, the registration process for the December session commenced in September, however, the cancellation of UGC NET June exam and delay in declaring re-exam results may have contributed to the lag in starting the upcoming exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will announce the UGC NET December 2024 exam date and upload the notification on the official website, ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Last year, the UGC NET exams were held between December 6 to 22 and the registration process concluded by the end of October.

The NTA conducts the test for eligibility for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), assistant professor, and admission into PhD programmes. The UGC earlier this year, allowed universities to offer admission through the UGC NET score.

Eligible candidates who wish to apply for the NTA NET test will also have to pay an application fee of Rs 1,150, Gen-EWS, OBC-NCL candidates will have to deposit Rs 600, and Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Person with Disability (PwD), and transgender candidates will have to pay Rs 325.

As per the UGC policy, 6% of those candidates who appear in both the papers and obtain minimum qualifying marks in aggregate of both the papers will be declared NET qualified.

Candidates will be able to choose from three categories - category 1 for award of JRF and appointment as assistant professor, category-2 for appointment as assistant professor and admission to PhD, and category-3 for PhD admission.
