Delay in UGC NET result 2024, PhD admission leave aspirants dazed

NEW DELHI: UGC NET candidates have been hit hard by the delay in declaring results for the July exams, which was reconducted in August and September. Aspirants have been flooding X with tweets requesting the University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar to announce the UGC NET result date 2024 for citing disruption in PhD admissions. Along with this, candidates have also expressed their dissatisfaction on “non-refundable challenge fee’ and more number of wrong answers.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued the provisional answer key and later revised some answers and extended the challenge facility till September 14. However, several candidates who appeared in the exam have alleged that there are over 60 wrong answers in the UGC NET history paper and highlighted a high-cost objection fee of Rs 200 per question.
The NTA conducts the UGC NET exam for awarding Junior Research Fellowships (JRF), eligibility for appointment of assistant professor and lectureship. In addition, the UGC decided to allow universities to offer admission to PhD programmes through the NTA NET score.
In this regard, candidates are apprehensive of the disruption caused in the PhD admission process for the academic year 2024-25.
UGC NET controversy
Notably, a total of 11,21,225 candidates registered for the UGC NET July exam 2024. Out of which, 9.08 candidates took the exam on June 18 by recording 81% attendance. The exam was administered in 1,205 exam centres located in 317 cities across the country. However, the ministry of education cancelled UGC NET exam 2024 based on the inputs from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) suggesting irregularities.
Tagging UGC chairman, an aspirant wrote on X, “Hey sir. It's already September and almost year end, when we get Ugc net exam results that help us in PhD admission? kindly think our students did a 4th year undergraduate program They are planning for the master if the result is not uploaded soon.”
“Ugc net result re exam result June 2024 kab tak ayega”, “Depressed due to UGC NET” were among other tweets on X.
“Sir when ugc net result will be declared please tell us a date as u always did,” another X user replied to Jagadesh Kumar’s social media post.
Students have also started asking details of the upcoming UGC NET December 2024 exam.
