NEW DELHI: Voicing the concerns of several aspirants awaiting UGC NET result 2024, an advocate has urged the chiefs of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Testing Agency (NTA) to take swift action in declaring the National Eligibility Test (NET) results. NTA UGC NET result 2024 for the June session is awaited at ugcnet.nta.ac.in.

Supreme Court advocate Ujjawal Gaur warned of seeking judicial intervention if the UGC NET June 2024 results are not declared soon, however, he hoped that such an action would not be required.

Background wave

“I write to you today with a deep sense of responsibility on behalf of countless students who find themselves in a state of distress due to the continued delay in the declaration of the UGC NET results. As their voice, I feel compelled to bring to your attention the mounting hardships they are facing, with the hope that immediate action will be taken to rectify this situation,” the SC advocate said in a letter addressed to UGC chairman M Jagadesh Kumar.

Delay in UGC NET result 2024

Narrating the ordeal of aggrieved students, the advocate explained how from paper leak and re-exam to the prolonged delay in UGC NET 2024 results, the journey of students has been already marked by huge challenges. These delays have severely disrupted the lives of candidates, both professionally and personally. With many academic and professional vacancies closing, students are being denied the chance to apply and advance their careers. The consequences of this delay go beyond inconvenience as they violate their constitutional rights under Article 14, which ensures equality before the law, and Article 19(1)(g), which protects their right to practice any profession. The injustice faced by candidates cannot be overlooked, he remarked.

“I urge you to consider the emotional and financial toll this delay has taken on students, many of whom come from modest backgrounds. For months, they have prepared, sacrificed, and invested in their future, only to be met with uncertainty and silence. Every passing day without the declaration of results erodes their hope and leaves them further behind in securing crucial opportunities. Their future is at stake, and I stand firmly by them, ensuring their voices are heard. They should not feel abandoned in this hour of need, for I am with them in this fight,” the member of SC Bar Association stated in the letter.

Court case

He went on to express “great” faith in the role of the country’s judicial system in upholding justice and ensuring that the rights of citizens, particularly students, are protected. The judiciary has consistently guarded the constitutional rights, stepping in when delays or administrative inefficiencies threaten to derail the lives of ordinary citizens. According to Gaur, in this case too, if the results are not declared expeditiously, judicial intervention may be sought as a last resort. The courts have, time and again, shown their sensitivity to such issues, ensuring that fairness and transparency prevail.

The advocate said that he’s prepared to take the necessary legal steps to safeguard the future of the students, if required. “This letter is not just a request, but a representation of the collective hope and aspirations of thousands of students who look to the UGC for justice and fairness. Their futures are in your hands, and swift action in declaring the results will go a long way in restoring their faith in the system.”

Advocate Ujjawal Gaur further extended trust in UGC and NTA that they will recognize the urgency of the situation and act accordingly.
