University of East Anglia announces scholarship worth $4000 for aspiring biomedical science students

NEW DELHI: University of East Anglia (UEA), recently announced a scholarship for Indian students enrolling in BSc biomedical science programme offering placement year at NHS (National Health Services). The scholarship is worth £4,000 for the entire programme making it significant financial aid for Indian students aspiring to build careers in biomedical science within the UK’s NHS, the UEA official statement said.

The scholarship highlights UEA’s commitment to foster global talent and support international students in their educational endeavours. UEA aims to make education accessible to Indian students by reducing the financial burden and offering them exceptional training and career opportunities in the UK healthcare sector.

The four-year degree programme in Biomedical Science is crafted to provide students with both advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications, the UEA statement adds.

Students enrolled in the biomedical programmes have the flexibility to choose between two degree options: Biomedicine (BSc Hons) and Biomedical Science (BSc Hons). However, the first-year curriculum is identical for both, allowing students to decide on their specialisation as they progress.

UEA’s third-year NHS placement

The highlight of the programme is the optional NHS placement year in the third year. Students will be offered an opportunity to work as trainee biomedical scientists in IBMS-approved NHS medical laboratories depending on availability, demand, and the student’s academic performance and aptitude.

Throughout the NHS placement, students will complete the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) training portfolio, which will set the foundation for obtaining HCPC registration as a professional Biomedical Scientist. The experiences given to students are an integral part of developing the expertise required for a successful career in the field, the UEA’s official statement added.
