UP Board asks Classes 9 to 12 to create APAAR IDs, schools to ensure 100% coverage

The Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education has urged students of Classes 9 to 12 to create and submit their Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID details as part of efforts to implement the ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ system across the state.

The initiative aims to provide students with secure and transparent access to their academic records. The 12-digit permanent digital identity will link a student’s educational details and credits throughout their academic journey.

According to Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Secondary Education, the UP Board is currently carrying out pre-registration for students of Classes 9 and 11, while students of Classes 10 and 12 are filling their examination application forms.

The APAAR ID will enable students to digitally store academic certificates, including marksheets and transfer certificates, through DigiLocker. This is expected to reduce the risk of documents being lost or damaged and make academic records easier to access.

APAAR ID not mandatory for UP Board registration

The Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh said that providing APAAR ID details is not mandatory for completing registration or examination application forms. However, the council has advised schools and parents to create APAAR IDs for students and enter the details in the relevant registration and examination forms.

Singh said, “Although providing APAAR ID details is not mandatory when filling out registration and application forms , in the best interests of students and to secure their digital educational future, the Council specifically requests all school principals, teachers, and parents to ensure that all parents create APAAR IDs for their children."

He also urged school principals to ensure that the APAAR IDs of all students are entered before the deadline for advance registration. Schools have been asked to guide parents through the process and provide necessary support.

APAAR ID is designed to create a single digital identity for students and consolidate their academic information in one place. Through the system, students can:

• Secure academic certificates digitally on DigiLocker
• Access marksheets and transfer certificates when required
• Reduce the risk of losing or damaging physical documents
• Access scholarships and welfare schemes more easily
• Use their academic records for educational opportunities and facilities

The council said that creating an APAAR ID is a simple and secure process that requires parental consent. It has asked schools, teachers and parents to cooperate in ensuring maximum coverage among students.

The UP Board's initiative comes as schools undertake advance registration and examination-related processes for the upcoming academic session. The council has encouraged schools to work towards entering APAAR IDs for 100% of students before the registration deadline.
