NEW DELHI: Two student organisations of Delhi have urged the DSSSB to include BElEd in eligibility criteria for Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) 2024 exam. The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board recently released the TGT application form 2024. Candidates can apply for the exam by March 8 at dsssbonline.nic.in.

As per the eligibility criteria mentioned in the DSSSB TGT notification 2024, candidates must have a bachelor’s degree with 45% aggregate marks in the subject being applied for, a degree in education, and should have passed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET).

Talking about the impact of removing the option for BElEd, SFI Delhi said, “The recent release of the Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) application form by the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) for the year 2024 has raised confusion and panic among B.El.Ed students.”

The student group alleged that it is against the recruitment rules and said, “Despite the clear eligibility of Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) graduates for the TGT position, as outlined in the recruitment rules, the option to apply with a B.El.Ed. qualification is conspicuously absent from the application form.”

TGT recruitment rules

SFI recalled that the recruitment rules for the post of TGT in English, mathematics, social science, and physical science or natural science subjects, under the Directorate of Education notified in the Delhi Gazette issued on June 28, 2023 clearly mention BElEd as an eligible qualification for applying for the TGT position.

“Despite this clear directive, the new DSSSB TGT application form for 2024 does not include an option for candidates with a B.El.Ed. degree to apply for the position. This oversight has raised concerns among aspiring B.El.Ed students who hold this qualification and seek employment opportunities within the education sector,” the student group stated.

SFI Delhi and DYFI Delhi thus urged the DSSSB authorities to rectify the eligibility criteria. The student bodies emphasized upon the importance of aligning the application process with the established recruitment rules to ensure fair and transparent selection procedures for all eligible candidates.

Lastly, SFI Delhi asked DSSSB to update the TGT application form 2024 with the option for BElEd graduates saying that failure to do so would not only undermine the integrity of the recruitment process but also deprive qualified BElEd candidates of their opportunity to pursue a career in teaching.
