UPSC Prelims Result 2026 will be made available in PDF format which will contain the roll numbers of candidates who have qualified for the Main Examination. One can download the result from the official UPSC website and search for their roll number using the Ctrl+F function.

UPSC CSE prelims examination consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies (GS) Paper 1 and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). While GS Paper 1 is considered for merit and cut-off determination, CSAT is qualifying in nature, requiring candidates to secure at least 33 percent marks. Those who pass the exam will be eligible for the next stage of the recruitment process, i.e. Civil Services Main Examination.
In a first, the Commission released the provisional answer key this year and invited representations from candidates through its Online Question Paper Representation Portal (QPRep). Aspirants were allowed to submit objections within the deadline. As per the pattern, experts will go through the objections raised and changes (if any) will get reflected in the final answer key.

How to Check UPSC CSE Prelims Result 2026
Those who qualify in the prelims exam will be eligible to fill out the Detailed Application Form (DAF). In the form, candidates are supposed to provide personal, educational, and service preference details.
- Visit the official UPSC website.
- Look for what's new section and click on the "Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination 2026 Result" link
- Result PDF will open on the screen
- Press Ctrl + F and enter your roll number to search for it in the list
- If your roll number appears in the PDF, you have qualified for main examination
- Download and keep a copy of the result PDF for future references

Was UPSC CSE tough this year?
The difficulty level of this year's UPSC CSE Prelims became a major talking point, with thousands of aspirants searching for answers in the days after the exam.
Commenting on the examination, UPSC Chairman Dr. Kumar said in a LinkedIn post that this year's Civil Services Preliminary Examination was particularly challenging for many candidates. He added that the release of the official provisional answer key would provide much-needed clarity to aspirants regarding their performance.
Dr. Kumar further noted that most answers in the provisional key were based on standard textbooks, government websites, official press releases, and reputed newspapers—the primary sources generally relied upon by serious civil services aspirants.

UPSC CSE 2026 prelims category-wise cut-off
