As per the UPSC official statement, “In compliance with the Supreme Court’s order permitting women candidates to participate in the NDA and NA Examination (II), 2021, it is hereby informed that the Ministry of Defence has furnished the following revised vacancy position thereby earmarking vacancies for women.”
On August 18, in a major step towards gender equality, the top court had passed an interim order permitting women candidates to appear in the NDA exams on a provisional basis. Following this, on September 8, the Centre allowed the admission of girls in NDA.
In September, after the apex court passed the order, the Centre asked for more time to implement and asked time till May 2022. However, the top court said there should be no delay in allowing women aspirants to take the exam.
