UP digital libraries aim to provide students access to e-resources, high-speed internet, and competitive exam preparation; cut reliance on coaching centres in cities

The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 4 lakh to establish digital libraries in each of the 104 gram panchayats across Agra district, with an aim to provide rural students access to resources that help in the preparation for competitive exams.
Under the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and implemented by the Panchayati Raj department, each digital library will be equipped with computers, high-speed internet, e-books, video lectures, quizzes, and approximately 20,000 digital learning resources to help students prepare for competitive exams without costly coaching or travel to cities, a report by Times Of India said.
The Uttar Pradesh government has allocated Rs 4 lakh per library — Rs 2 lakh for books, Rs 1.3 lakh for IT equipment, and about Rs 7,000 for modern furniture.
Local gram pradhans and secretaries will manage the facilities, with ongoing monitoring by designated officials to ensure effective operation.

District panchayati raj officer Manish Kumar said that these hubs will function as comprehensive learning centres, offering both printed and digital materials from reputed authors to significantly enhance academic preparation.
The initiative is expected to widen access to quality educational resources for village students and reduce dependence on urban coaching centres, marking a significant step toward inclusive rural education in Uttar Pradesh.
