UP government sanctions Rs 4.98 crore for maintenance, renovation of 8 backward class hostels

The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 4.98 crore for the repair, maintenance and renovation of eight hostels under the Backward Classes Welfare Department. The funds have been approved to improve facilities and provide a safer educational environment for students from backward classes.

A total of Rs 498.71 lakh has been sanctioned for the maintenance works at the selected hostels across the state. The approved amount will be used only for the works specified in the sanction, with no provision for new construction.

Hostel-wise funds sanctioned

The Government Women’s Polytechnic in Gorakhpur received the highest allocation of Rs 67.93 lakh, followed by the Government Polytechnic, Bahraich, with Rs 67.42 lakh. The complete allocation is given below:

The sanctioned amount will be utilised only for the approved repair and maintenance works. The government has clarified that no new work can be added to the approved estimates or the scope of an existing work expanded without prior approval from the competent authority.

The withdrawal and expenditure of the funds will have to follow the prescribed guidelines. Work can begin only after approval from the competent authority.

The Director, Backward Classes Welfare Department, Uttar Pradesh, and the Uttar Pradesh State Construction Cooperative Federation Limited have been assigned responsibility for implementing the approved works.

Officials to monitor quality of work

The principal of the concerned hostel and the District Backward Classes Welfare Officer will supervise the maintenance work at the local level. They will also submit certificates confirming the quality and completion of the work.

The Divisional Deputy Director of Backward Classes Welfare will inspect the works during official visits. In addition, a government-level committee will be constituted to assess the quality of the work and conduct physical verification after completion.

The government has also specified that the sanctioned funds must be utilised within the relevant financial year and cannot be carried forward to the following financial year.

The approved projects are limited to repair and maintenance of existing hostels. No new hostel construction will be undertaken under the sanction.
