Uttar Pradesh schools shut till February 15 amid surge in COVID-19 cases

NEW DELHI: Schools in Uttar Pradesh will remain closed till February 15 owing to the rise in Covid-19, Omicron cases in the state. The Uttar Pradesh government informed recently that the UP schools will remain shut till January 30, however, it has now been further extended.

According to reports, an order was issued by the additional chief secretary home Avanish Awasthi stating that the closure of schools has been extended from January 30 to February 15.

Avanish Awasthi said that online classes will continue due to the upcoming UP board exams. Also, the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) is expected to conduct UP Class 10, 12 board exams 2022 after March 10 as the state will go to poll in seven phases from February 10 to March 7, 2022.

On Wednesday, Uttar Pradesh reported 10,937 fresh coronavirus cases that pushed its active infection tally to 80,342, while 23 more fatalities raised the death toll to 23,106, an official statement said.

Lucknow recorded a maximum of 3,294 new cases, followed by 1,323 from Gautam Buddh Nagar, 902 from Meerut, 852 from Ghaziabad, and 594 cases from Varanasi, besides reporting cases from other districts, it said.
