VIT Chennai, Deakin University launch dual degree in Cyber Security; students to study in India and Australia

Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai, and Australia’s Deakin University have launched a dual degree programme in Cyber Security. Under the programme, students can earn a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Science and Engineering (Cyber Security) from VIT Chennai and a Bachelor of Cyber Security (Honours) from Deakin University.

As per the institute, the programme allows students to start their studies at VIT Chennai, covering computer science, network security, and data protection, and then move to Deakin University, Australia, for advanced coursework and research in cybersecurity systems, governance, and digital forensics. Graduates receive internationally recognised qualifications and skills applicable to the cybersecurity sector.

“Graduates will emerge with a globally recognised qualification, industry-ready skills, and cross-cultural experience to contribute to the rapidly expanding cybersecurity sector,” the official press release said.

The dual degree builds on over a decade of collaboration between VIT and Deakin University, which includes faculty and student exchange programmes, joint doctoral programmes, and integrated master’s courses in Engineering, Information Technology, and Architecture and Built Environment.

Specialisations under the collaboration include Civil Engineering, Renewable Energy, Mechanical Engineering Design, Mechatronics, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Construction Management.

Joint doctoral programmes expand collaboration

The collaboration also extends to joint doctoral programmes in Smart Manufacturing, Critical Technologies, Future Infrastructure, and Technology for Healthcare, aiming to create structured education and research pathways for students in emerging technology domains.

Speaking about the collaboration, Bas Baskaran, Associate Dean, International and Partnerships, Deakin University, said: “This dual degree reflects Deakin’s strong commitment to building globally accessible education pathways that empower students with the expertise and perspective to lead in a technology-driven world.
