Vivekananda Global University holds 6th convocation; 832 students awarded degrees

VGU awarded 63 students with gold medals, silver medals, and bronze medals. It also organised a reunion on its 10th anniversary.

NEW DELHI: Vivekananda Global University held its 6th convocation on January 12. A total of 832 students were awarded degrees in the convocation ceremony. 63 meritorious students were awarded with 28 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 15 bronze medals. Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla was the chief guest at the ceremony.

The University also honored Padma Bhushan Professor R S Paroda and Professor Laxman Singh Rathore for their distinguished contribution in the field of agriculture and meteorology respectively by conferring the honorary degree (Honoris Causa) of Doctorate of Science on them.

Addressing the gathering, Birla said that learning was a continuous process and that the people learn throughout their lives. He added that the hard work and dedication of the teachers go a long way in shaping the future of the students. Birla exhorted the students to become responsible citizens of the country. He lauded the role played by VGU in maintaining high standards in education and helping in moulding the young graduands to the society.

In his address, President of the University, Professor Vijay Vir Singh lauded the contribution of Prof Paroda and Prof Rathore and said that these distinguished, well known and respected personalities did not need any special introduction. He also informed that recently VGU has got sanction from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to offer full-fledged programmes of MBA, BBA, BCA, BA, and MA in online mode and the university will start these programs from this month itself.

The university held a reunion on January 13 on the occasion of its 10th anniversary. The reunion included activities such as dance, games, music etc. The old students completed registration and took a round of the campus. “They danced as their carvan moved ahead. Many current students also joined them on the way. The huge procession made its way toward the main building of the University where they were greeted by the senior faculty members, including the deans and heads of different departments,” said VGU’s official statement.

“Consider VGU your home and feel free to visit us whenever you feel like,’’ VGU Registrar Praveen Chowdhry said while addressing them. “We are always there for you. You will always receive the same warmth when you come here,” he added. At the end of the event, alumni were felicitated with mementoes and gifts.
