NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 4: Indian students travelling to Spain for higher studies do not require additional examinations like GMAT, SAT, TOEFL or IELTS informed higher officials at the Embassy of Spain in New Delhi. The students are only required to have completed their high school in India and have a certificate of proficiency in the Spanish language.
The officials spoke about the highly subsidized higher education in Spain which is a major attraction for international students across the globe. With the growing global appeal of Spanish as the second most language spoken the language in the world, the Spanish government is looking to attract students from different parts of the world.
“India is a country of talent, it has been for millennia and in the last decade for sure. We realised that we have to somehow attract that kind of talent,” said Ignacio Vitórica Hamilton, Cultural and Press Attaché at the Embassy of Spain at a seminar held for academic experts and principals from schools across India.
Although Spanish is the second most taught foreign language in Indian schools, experts cited the linguistic barrier as a major factor that discourages Indian students to study in Spain. To ease this inhibition among students, the embassy collaborates with Campus Spain which is a Spanish institution that assists international students in Spain.
Campus Spain provides Spanish courses, proficiency certificates and assists students in academic orientation, legalizing documents and other paperwork to facilitate a smooth transition for Indian students.
“We have a programme called Spanish LCA where we teach students Spanish and help them to get admitted into at least one public university in Spain. We also guide the students through the entire process of applying to the university,” said Gonzalo Martinez, Director of Campus Spain.
